LESLEY: After DJing in all sorts of clubs and venues, around the year 1999 is when I started focusing on techno and house. It didn’t take long before I was playing at Technoville (my own events), Rector (Gent, BE), Createch (Lichtfabriek, Haarlem & Almere Strand), The MS Stubnitz, Groundqontrol, MNML am MDNGHT, Bassrulezz VIP Area (Waakzaamheid), Les & More (my own events and record label), Winston’s Kingdom, Bam Bam (Club LA Amsterdam), TWSTd (Amsterdam) Attractive Force, Undergrounded (UG), The Getaway Café and many more.

Around 2010 is when I was disappointed in the whole club scene. Main reason was the audience. The hipster student type I couldn’t identify with. So I guit to have a one year sabbatical.

Lesley Jones 2022…

It’s been ten years since my last gig, playing a live techno set at Stubnitz, at the ‘NSDM werf’, Amsterdam North and while the fire in me was gone, the flame still hasn’t died.

Back in the record shops again! Going through piles and stacks of records, trying to find that sound I love so much. It had to be house with a techno flavor but not just any tune. It needs that groove. it needs that certain drive. It’s gotta be somewhat funky, too! The elements and ingredients for a Les Ley set.

But most of all, I’m back in the studio again! Producing that compelling, immersive and melodic sound I love so much. The studio was a bit dusty, I’m a bit rusty, but we’re getting there. My first new releases are now on all major platforms.

Lesley Jones

DJ Lesley Jones is an Amsterdam based DJ and producer, formerly known as Funky Junkie. Lesley has been inspired by music since he can remember. At the age of 9 he was already making mixtapes for the pretty girls in his street, when he realized music is a universal language.

Lesley started his DJ career at a local radio station at age 13 and is still hosting his own radio show at Amsterdam Funk Channel, a Funk Soul and R&B station which Lesley founded back in 2010.

Two years after he started as a radio host, age 15, Lesley was asked to substitute for a friend who was resident DJ at one of the few clubs in his hometown of IJmuiden (NL) and that was the ignition for his professional DJ career. The spark that was that caused that fire never died.

Lesley gets his inspiration from producers by the likes of Stephan Bodzin, Marc Romboy and Legowelt, and you can hear this in his tracks and sets. Compelling, Immersive, melodic techno and techhouse is what to expect.
